Iconic American test pilot Chuck Yeager, who became the first person to break the sound barrier, has died aged 97. Yeager, who was immortalized in the 1983 film ’The Right Stuff,’ was a World War II fighter ace known for his daring. He shot down 12 German planes, including 5 in a single dogfight. It was his feats as a test pilot after the war that paved the way for the 1960s’ US space missions.
