Biden announces Lloyd Austin as his defense secretary nominee

Joe Biden announced retired Army Gen. Lloyd Austin to be his defense secretary Tuesday. Austin, who retired 4 years ago, will be the first Black man to helm the Pentagon. Biden also urged Congress to approve a waiver allowing Austin to lead the Pentagon sooner than he is allowed under federal law, which prohibits anyone from serving as secretary of Defense within 7 years of active-duty service.
