Gunmen shot and killed a television journalist and women’s rights activist in Afghanistan. Malalai Maiwand, a reporter at Enikas Radio and TV, was killed along with her driver Mohammad Tahir when gunmen fired on their vehicle in Jalalabad. The area has been a hotbed of militant activity, most notably involving IS. Five years ago, Malalai’s mother, also an activist, was shot dead by militants.
This is a real tragedy. 7 percent of journalists that are killed are women and that is just too many.
