The Cleveland Indians have reportedly decided to change their team name, following years of protests from fans and Native American groups. The move follows the Washington based NFL football team’s decision in July to stop using a name long considered a racial slur. The Indians could keep their name and uniforms for the 2021 season, but the shift could reportedly take place as early as 2022.
Some history: The Indians was previously known as the Forest Citys, Spiders, Bluebirds, Bronchos, and Naps before adopting their current name in 1915
