Germany plans stricter lockdown over Christmas to control coronavirus infections
Chancellor Angela Merkel announced closure of schools and non-essential businesses from December 16th to January 10th after a meeting with state leaders, citing urgent need to prevent overloading of the health care system. Food stores and banks may remain open, and companies are urged to allow working from home. Government pledges financial support of up to 0.5M€ for businesses that have to close.
