U.S. imposes sanctions on two Iranian officials for 2007 abduction

Two Iranian officials were blacklisted by the United States on Monday, as it accused them of being involved in the March 2007 disappearance of Robert Levinson. Levinson was a former FBI agent who the United States believes was abducted in Iran and died in captivity. Sanctions were imposed on Mohammad Baseri and Ahmad Khazai of Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security.

For the life of me, I have never understood this rattling of swords the US state department displays and calls out sanctions....whadda they gonna do, cut off their AMEX and turn ‘em over to collections?
