AOC defends NYC paramedic who supplemented income with explicit OnlyFans account

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez came out in defense of a NYC paramedic who was ’making ends meet’ during the pandemic by posting topless or lingerie-clad images of herself on her OnlyFans account. A New York Post story, without her consent, brought to light the story of Lauren Kwei, a medic paying her bills with her two incomes. In a tweet defending Kwei, AOC said ’Sex work is work’.

“At GoFundMe—where a supporter quickly began a fundraiser for Kwei after the article was published, for fear that she would lose her job in healthcare—Kwei wrote on Sunday that Balsamini went against her wishes by refusing to allow her to remain anonymous in the article. “ "I told him my safety and job were going to be at risk if he posted this article," Kwei wrote. "He truly did not care. He went on to call my employer and my mother." Garbage move by a garbage reporter. AOC is correct, the real story is that our system does not pay our frontline emergency workers nearly enough for what they do. The system certainly enriches those at the top of the insurance industry and healthcare services though!

why the heck is the main issue not the exploitative article published to try and manufacture scandal to publicly shame a woman for doing something perfectly legal that in no way affected her job?
