’Oversight’: MLB reclassifies Negro Leagues as a major league after 100 years
America’s Major League Baseball announced that it is reclassifying the Negro Leagues as a major league and said it was ’correcting a longtime oversight in the game’s history.’ The Negro Leagues consisted of seven leagues. MLB will include records from those circuits between 1920-48. Those leagues were excluded in 1969 when a panel identified six official ’major leagues’ dating to 1876.
