Amazon workers in Alabama get chance to form union

Federal regulators gave the nod to Amazon workers at an Alabama warehouse to vote on forming a union. If they vote to unionize themselves, it would be the first union at a US facility of the e-commerce giant. In November, representatives of Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union filed for a poll to represent 1,500 frontline workers at the Bessemer warehouse. Amazon contested the decision.

I genuinely hope Amazon doesn’t hinder the union in any way, but I know they probably will.

This is great news! Unions are so important for the working class to organize, and I hope this goes well and sets a precedent at Amazon and other huge corporations!

I don’t have a dog in this fight, but I’m curious...Do American workers now need permission from a federal regulator in order to organize? Are we THAT far down this road?

Expect prices to go up and less efficient shipping now. This is always the case with unions. Workers dont work and they compete with the consumer.

Unionization does not equal good necessarily.... It can be in some instances but will degenerate into ridiculousness fast

Over 70 years when I was working in the service industry, I did not like unions because I felt that they protected bad employees. And there were times when they did just that. But in recent years, I've noticed employers (like Amazon, and the meat packing industry) take advantage of their employees and make them work in unsafe environments, to the point where they have to wear diapers on the line due to work demands.

And so they should with the proper information the choice will be clear but if all they get from management is miss information and threats they will make the wrong decision. Vote Union and better yourselves your family and your community

I wonder if you have first hand knowledge of working for Amazon. I do, and if they are really "ticking all the boxes" a union would request', then unions don't request much.

Bad move. These employees just agreed to be taxed twice and by two entities that couldn't care less about them individually. Why do people feel like they are incapable of assessing their own value and negotiating that value. Those that work harder will make more outside of unions. The only people that have any chance of benefiting are those that are lazy and bad employees to begin with.

Amazon has done a good job trying to check all the boxes a Union would be demanding anyway, so I don’t know why forming aUnion has any value. Having worked with unions first hand, I’m not keen on this, especially for a big commercial retailer.
