Denmark toughens rape laws, sex without explicit consent made criminal

Denmark has toughened its existing rape laws. Now, sex without explicit consent will be treated as rape. Denmark’s Justice Minister Nick Haekkerup said, ’Now it will be clear, that if both parties don’t consent to sex, then it’s rape.’ A similar law brought in Sweden saw a 75% jump in rape convictions in the country. In Denmark, 11,400 women are raped or subjected to attempted rape every year.

Because, “under the old legislation, prosecutors had to show the rapist had used violence or attacked someone who was unable to resist.” What are the chances of a victim surviving and coming out in the open, under the old law, without any threat to their security, should they survive an attack? This is good news, in my opinion. Altho still subject to abuse.
