Australia detects two cases of UK coronavirus strain

Australian authorities confirmed Monday that two cases of a fast-spreading new coronavirus strain identified in the UK have been detected in the country’s New South Wales state. The cases were detected Sunday in travelers from the UK. The infected persons are in quarantine and authorities stressed that no people infected with the new strain were believed to be circulating in the community.

Why the f are they letting UK visitors into Australia? That region is a long way from getting Covid-19 under control.

“UK” strain... err well it was discovered there but that’s mostly because the UK is leading the field of comstant genome sequencing of virus samples. There are dozens of strains but only one that we know of which has been associated with faster transmission. It is almost certainly already in Europe and elsewhere. So please stop calling it “UK” strain

Everyone entering Australia is quarantined. There’s not been any transmissions from international travelers for months and months. No biggy. I mean he had what two community cases in Sydney last week and states have banned travel from there/NSW. It’s why Australia is essentially covid free. We’re taking it seriously, early. Unlike certain other countries.
