President Donald Trump decreed that all new federal buildings in the United States should be ’beautiful’. This was a long expected executive order which excoriated architectural modernism. The executive order, however, stopped short of demanding that all such projects ought to be in the classical style. Paul Goldberger, the Pulitzer winning architectural critic said the order was ’mostly symbolic’
Those "classic" buildings were contemporary when they were conceived as should all new federal architecture. "Beauty" cannot be dictated.
I mean if you are building a federal building in DC wouldn't you normally go with a classical style? Even so it seems silly to mamdate that, especially in the last couple of weeks of your presidency.
This guy is such a dork. Who's to say what's "beautiful." I think the old classics are ugly. I think new buildings should be a reflection of current artistic taste and talent. When the old classics were made they were current style.
