Mayor Marcelo Crivella of Rio de Janeiro arrested over graft charges

Rio de Janeiro’s outgoing Mayor Marcelo Crivella has been arrested following an investigation into alleged corruption at city hall. According to Brazil’s O Globo news website, police and prosecutors arrived at the mayor’s house in the upscale Barra de Tijuca neighborhood in the early hours of Tuesday. Investigators alleged that Alves awarded contracts to companies in exchange for bribes.
