Turkey court hands exiled journalist Can Dundar 27-year jail sentence

A Turkish court has sentenced in absentia a prominent journalist Can Dundar to 27.5 years in jail after convicting him of ’espionage’ and ’aiding an armed organization.’ Dundar was the editor of Turkish daily Cumhuriyet. He fled to Germany in 2016. He is accused of being a supporter of exiled cleric Fethullah Gulen, who Turkey’s President Erdogan says was the mastermind of the 2016 coup attempt.
