Pakistan court orders release of man charged in Daniel Pearl’s murder

A Pakistan court ordered that British-born militant Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, who was charged with the 2002 killing of journalist Daniel Pearl, be released from prison. Sheikh was sentenced to death for plotting Pearl’s murder, but a high court squashed the conviction in April. He wasn’t freed earlier due to appeals against it and the government’s objection, which said it would endanger the public.

Sparing him from a death penalty shouldn't mean he gets to go free. Wasn't he found guilty of the crime? Life in prison would be easy for him, he'd be a hero.
