A three-judge federal appeals court ruled that the parents of an 8-year-old pupil who died by suicide after being bullied in a Cincinnati school can sue the school district. The court observed that Gabriel Taye’s parents had established ’reckless behavior,’ which strips school officials of governmental immunity. Taye killed himself after being ruthlessly beaten and bullied on January 26, 2017.
This is why public school can be so horrible... administrations never give a crap... I hope they take every penny from that school.. "zero tolerance" bs
I get the parents are hurting, and the school may have been negligent in it's duty to prevent bullying. But kids will be kids, bullying is impossible to stop... It is also not the school's fault he killed himself. If anything, it is the parent's fault for being out of touch with their kid's emotional wellbeing (or worse, knowing and not pulling him out of school and sending him to a psych.)
That makes no sense at all. How can you hold an entity liable for actions of separate individuals. Not employees, not voluntary patrons, but children forced to attend and now we the people are responsible and on the hook for damages?!? What kind of cracker jack box degree does this judge have?
So, do the actual bullies walk away Scott free?
Such a tragedy, prayers for the Family. Do wonder if this child had be being bullied for years in school, for it appears the parents new according to article. Why did they keep sending him back. Possibly send him to another school, even do homeschooling. At the same time go after the system. Have the bullies arrested.
And people wonder why school schootings happen.
This is why you teach kids to stand up for themselves. If they gotta learn to fight fine. Also gotta teach em to respect themselves too. Yeah I don't like kids fighting each other but they gotta learn to protect themselves even if it means fighting dirty when outnumbered or outsized. Stop teaching kids to be wimps and expect to be saved by a teacher everytime cause frankly too many don't give a damn.
