On Friday, 20 states and 32 cities and counties in the US will raise their minimum wage. In 27 of these places, the pay floor will reach or exceed $15 an hour. In New Mexico, the minimum wage will increase to $10.50, up $1.50. And in California, the rate for employers with 26 workers or more will rise from $13 to $14 an hour. In Minnesota, the gain is just 8 cents, to a $10.08 hourly rate.

If you've got a job and can afford to spend a little, start investing in materials, appliances, and food with a long shelf life now if you live in any of these states. If you're renting, try to put away a little extra each pay check for the inevitable rent increase that will be heading your way. Everything will be getting more expensive, and a lot of layoffs are on the way - good luck to you all.

Some of you don't understand how economics works and it really shows. Why do you think a coke doesn't cost 5 cents anymore??

They will give you $15 but also inflation at 10 times that. Be careful what you ask for you just might get it. 66% of all the M1 money supply denominated in US dollars ever created has been created in the last 9 months. Guess what that translates into.

Some states have already done this and the universe didn't implode. These aren't a straight jump to $15, they're gradual over years

One day people will realize that minimum wage means minimum wage. When that goes up everything else goes up and guess what you're still broke because you're making the least that one can be paid legally.

It's like the people worried about this have forgotten that inflation has gone up hundreds of times while the average pay has stayed the same. Ffs you're shooting yourselves in the foot trying to stop this.

$15 means less jobs, also means they will work you much harder to make up the difference. If you complain they will just find someone else from that large unemployment field.

“When you raise minimum wage, it raises rent. When you raise rent you have to build affordable housing. When you have to build affordable housing you have to tax people to build the affordable housing. When you tax people to build affordable housing, people move out of the city. When people move out of the city, you have to raise taxes on the people that remain in the city. This is how you hallow out the economy of a major metropolitan city” ^Ben Shapiro

The fry guy should never get 15 bucks an hour. But if you raise his pay then everyone above him as to get a raise all the way to the top. Then the price of everything will sky rocket so the value of the dollar is cut in half so instead of making 9 or 10 as he is now he will actually be making 7.50 damn leftist are mentally ill

So the "lucky" businesses that haven't been illegally shutdown by the government and are probably holding on by the skin of their teeth, now have to pay some employees more. What could go wrong?

It's dumb. We did this in ma and cost of living spiked. Take a lesson from history, raising minimum wage only makes things worse

This is just stupid raising the minimum wage just only increases prices which causes inflation. The other problem is that this causes automation which causes unemployment. Though automation can increase jobs to a certain degree.

Min wage should be regulated at the state level. Arkansas and New York are completely different and do not need their min wages to be the same. $12/hr in Camden, Arkansas gets you a lot more than $20/hr in NYC.

Higher minimum wages will drive to more automation of low skill jobs. Kiosks at McDonald's, roots, like roomba for janitorial work.

Such an awful line of thinking. Having no minimum wage would do wonders for this country’s economy.

The big companies really benefit from an increase in mw, Amazon has already passed up $15 here. But the small business person will have to cut something to make the difference, remember it's not just the wage but SS and benefits, 15 surpasses 20/hr, a big hit

Minimum wage laws really miss the real problem - the vast majority of working people, who make more than minimum wage, still don't make enough to support a family, and in relative terms have been falling behind for decades. You can't fix that problem with minimum wage laws, but then again it certainly doesn't hurt. If you can't afford to pay your workers $15/hr you seriously have to ask whether you've got a viable business or if your business plan is really just built on exploiting people.
