UN-AU peacekeeping mission in Sudan’s Darfur ends

A joint UN and African Union peacekeeping mission in Sudan’s Darfur region ended Thursday, after more than 13 years of operation. The Sudanese govt will take the responsibility of providing security in the region now. A total of 300,000 people have been killed in the region ever since fighting erupted in 2003 when ethnic minority rebels rose up against the Arab-dominated government in Khartoum.
