Amazon says it will put $2 billion in affordable housing near its facilities

Amazon announced that it will spend $2 billion for affordable housing in some of the cities where it has facilities. The company’s boss Jeff Bezos said it has launched a fund to ’create or preserve 20,000 affordable homes’ near all three of its headquarters, which are Arlington, Puget Sound, and Nashville. Bezos also said the scheme will also help local families achieve ’long-term stability.’

Makes it harder to quit a job when the boss owns your home. Everyone worried about Socialism should look-up Feudalism.

Why not pay your employees/tenants Amazon bucks that can then be used at the local Whole Foods?

Why not just pay wages that make living within your Amazon employment zone affordable and provides some left over wages each payday and no credit card necessary for daily living expenses. That would be better than a company town entrapment. 🤔

🤣 an Amazon corporate town... how 19th Century. ''m sure no one will be indebted to Amazon. The area of Arlington that Amazon moved to is largely owned by a single developer... the developer will make bank and Amazon will pass on the cost as the VA politicians pocket bank.

Great because almost always does afforadable housing turn into the projects. So nice to see amazon wants to bring a peace of Chicago outside its headquarters.

He has to if he doesn't want Joe to screw him up the butt... but, it will happen anyway amazon because virtue signally never works... plus affordable housing rarely helps people but turns into dens of thieves and drug lords.

Observe, he's not doing it in California. The California legislature has mandated solar panels and commercial sprinkler systems in every home. That's 40-50k before you put in the first nail. There's 10k in earthquake straps even if you're building where no faults exist. Then there's 40-50k in permit fees. So, for $100-140k, you get a set of plans approved. Then you can start building your "affordable home".

Affordable housing probably means substandard. I’m reminded of post-war cheap housing over here in the UK.
