Google removes Parler app from Play Store

Google has suspended the app Parler from the Play Store. ’We’re aware of continued posting in the Parler app that seeks to incite ongoing violence in the US,’ Google said in a statement. Apple has also given an ultimatum to Parler to police its app or be removed on Saturday. The app is known for having less moderation and as a conservative-friendly alternative to other social media platforms.

Just so everyone knows, Parler operates on a broadcast standard for speech. Therefore, any restrictions to television or radio also apply on Parler.

Even if the claims that Parler "seeks to incite ongoing violence in the US" are true, using that as the justification for banning the app from every country makes little sense. Unless I missed a very significant news cycle the United States is still only one part of the world. I don't know if this is a way to silence centrist and conservative voices, or simply because Parler is a threat to the Facebook/Google profit margins, but they need a better excuse if they want to make it believable.

If Parler unwilling/unable to meet Apple, Google terms of service, they're reduced to just web UI - not nearly as useful, convenient.
