Sadyr Japarov wins landslide victory in Kyrgyzstan election

Nationalist politician Sadyr Japarov has won a landslide victory in Kyrgyzstan’s snap presidential election, which was triggered by the collapse of the previous government. Japarov got nearly 80% of the vote, the central electoral commission said. More than 80% of voters have also supported a proposal to reform the constitution to give the president greater powers at parliament’s expense.

Local culture allows it Approximately half of all Kyrgyz marriages include bride kidnapping; of those kidnappings, two-thirds are non-consensual.[46] Research by non-governmental organizations give estimates from a low of 40%[47] to between 68 and 75 percent[48] of all marriages in Kyrgyzstan involved bride kidnapping.
