Mississippi flies new state flag without Confederate battle emblem

Mississippi hoisted a new state flag without the Confederate battle emblem. It is considered to be a divisive rebel symbol. The retired flag was the last state banner in the US that had the emblem. Mississippi lawmakers voted last June to retire the flag. However, many white Mississippians said that flag represented their loved ones who fought in the civil war and a part of their legacy now gone.
