VP Mike Pence rejected using the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump from office. In a letter to House Speaker Pelosi, Pence said the mechanism should not be used ’as a means of punishment or usurpation.’ ’I do not believe that such a course of action is in the best interest of our nation or consistent with our Constitution,’ he added.

To spin it onto some sort of punishment works well with the right wing clients. Of course this is not about punishment but about protecting the US against further attempts or a coup while he is still in office. Pence knows this of course.

It it pathetic to judge Trump as mentally compromised while you allow a senile old man who absolutely is mentally compromised to walk into office. There us zero evidence that Trump incited anyone to storm inside the capital building. He encouraged his supporters to peacefully attend a protest which is the right of every Ametican citizen. I have seen videos of the capital police literally opening the barricades and allowing people inside. I repeat I have seen the video. I will believe what I have seen long before I will believe the mainstream interpretation of what Trump's words meant to his supporters. I have not once heard anything Trump has actual said which could be interpreted as 'storm the capital building'.

By not invoking the 25th, Pence is forcing the issue of impeachment which, if successful, will strip Trump of ever holding political office in the future, his pension and protection. I'm guessing Pence believes Trump is a real threat to our nation.

Pence was never going to. He would have far earlier. The idiot has no plans of throwing anyone under the bus or involving himself in anything requiring effort to indicate reprehension. I repeat; Pence does not care about reprehending the actions of his leader. Then again, impeachment makes more sense — but doubtful to think that it will end in a unanimous decision to ensure this example presidency does not abhorrently re-occur under another dividing egotist.
