NYC terminates business contracts with Trump after Capitol riot

NYC mayor Bill de Blasio said the city will end its business contracts with President Trump, after the president urged his supporters to march to the Capitol. The Trump Organization earns about $17 million a year in profits from its contracts with the city, de Blasio said. The city can legally terminate a contract if the leadership of a company is engaged in criminal activity.

So the guy who participated in painting a BLM sign outside Trump hotel considers a speech not calling for violence and not made in the context of violence which has happened before the event started criminal. BLM protests had already shown significant violence prior to De Blassio participating in that event. As I understand it the entry to the Capital building started after Trumps event at the Cresent started but before his speech concluded. There isn’t a plausible case for suggesting Trump caused or encouraged the entry to the Capital which his main critics appear willing to apply to Dems who supported BLM or the prior protest entries into the Capital or the Supreme Court building.

If you have a contract that allows you to cancel it if the other party engages in criminal activity, you'd better wait until he's convicted. Trump's going to win a fortune in this lawsuit. It goes beyond canceling the contract and toward libel/slander. Deblasio has to show reasonable belief that Trump is a criminal, and that's what courts decide, not individuals.
