South Korea’s top court upholds 20-year jail sentence for former president

South Korea’s Supreme Court has upheld the 20-year prison sentence given to Park Geun-hye, the country’s former president. A lower court had initially handed Park a 24-year sentence after she was convicted of abuse of power, bribery and coercion, in 2018. It reduced to 20 years in 2020 following a retrial. She will have to serve a total of 22 years in jail – two more years for another conviction.
