Indonesian island of Sulawesi rocked by 6.2 magnitude quake, 34 killed

Initial information from the country’s disaster mitigation agency showed that 34 people had died and 637 others were injured after a 6.2-magnitute earthquake hit Indonesia’s Sulawesi island early Friday. The epicentre of the quake was six kilometres north-east of Majene city. 15,000 residents have been displaced. Many people are feared trapped under collapsed buildings.

I'm glad there were few casualties. Whenever I near about earthquakes it seems like they claim a lot of lives.

However bad this earthquake was in terms of casualties, and I'm not minimising this at all, it's still nothing in terms of magnitude or intensity compared to a megathrust, magnitude 9+ earthquake accompanied quite often by a major tsunami like in late 2004.
