An earthquake in Antarctica caused panic in Chile when a glitch in an emergency message system mistakenly sent out a tsunami warning, urging people to abandon coastal areas through mobile messages. The 6.9 temblor struck Saturday, about 134 miles northeast of Chile’s scientific base, forcing dozens at the research station to flee. Officials later said they regretted sending the false alarm.
