The Chicago Teachers Union said Sunday that its members voted to defy an order to return to the classroom over concerns about COVID-19, claiming the district has not done enough to keep them and their students safe amid the pandemic. The decision puts the teachers in a face-off with district officials who have said that refusing to return when ordered would amount to an illegal strike.
What a bunch of entitled weaklings. These are the same teachers that expect their local grocery store worker or their local Walmart employee to go to work everyday having close contact with far far more individuals that are older and therefore far more likely to pass viruses on, but these selfish snobs can't be bothered to do their jobs. That would be mistreatment. Give me a break. GO TO WORK OR DON'T GET PAID. We as a community need to push back on elites and their sense of superiority.
Stand up for the gutless teachers and the hell with the kids. These people would never make it in the military, their cowards, who run for cover in the heat of battle.
"The Associated Press said the school district has roughly 355,000 students and the union represents roughly 25,000 members." That seems like a rather high teacher to student ratio.
Good. Until workplace conditions increase and they get what they want out of their collective bargaining agreement, they should not have to return to work. This is the point of having a union. It's to give workers a balance between the power dynamic. Anyone who is against this needs to become a teacher :)
And I'm sure they still want more money.
Who knew teachers were anti-science?
Solidarity with the teachers.
Don't they know Trump is out of office? Time to go back to normal now, covid no longer exists.
What a surprise. Public school teachers don’t want to go to work. What else is new?
Good, people can watch their own kids. Give the teachers the vaccine or the kids can stay remote.
Can we annex Chicago, please? Sincerely, Illinois
As a teacher, teacher's unions are one of the problems in our public education system.
