Growing list of GOP senators oppose Trump impeachment trial

A growing number of GOP senators say they oppose holding an impeachment trial for Donald Trump. ’I think the trial is stupid, I think it’s counterproductive. The first chance I get to vote to end this trial, I’ll do it,’ said Sen. Marco Rubio. Arguments in the Senate trial will begin the week of Feb. 8. Democrats need the support of 17 Republicans to convict Trump.

Technically-speaking Trump did nothing that's an impeachable offense. He didn't directly call for violence or a break-in at Capitol Hill. He has stoked a lot of anger, but that is not criminal. If it were, we'd be having a similar conversation about Dems who've been stoking anger in BLM these past few years. I hope they swiftly end this farce of an impeachment and get back to running the country

Dems won't quit will they. Why would they bother focus on the job they were "voted"* in to do. C'mon Man, there's kids in the middle east you need to bomb into freedom!

As a Democrat, I would like to see this issue thrown out. If we want, so called “Unity” in this country we should just leave it alone and proceed with the task at hand, and that’s making this country better than when we found it.

As a Canadian, I'm not a big Trump fan. But this has shown me just how vindictive and dangerous Democrats are. The well-being of Americans seems irrelevant to them. It looks like they're only interested in power and revenge.

Ok, would they prefer to proceed with insurrection inquiries? Perhaps impeachment of senators and congresspeople who through their frequent repetition of a known falshood encourage a large segment of the population to disregard the votes of a larger population?

First they come for Trump. Then his supporters. Then those in the far right. Then any Republican. Then anyone who voted for him. How far down that list is me? How far down that list is you?

I don't disagree.. this is literally asinine and a massive grey area at best... Trump isn't even allowed to defend himself..

Good old misdirection. Anything to keep you looking at the other hand. I can't wait for America to be blindsided with what's happening. But it's a willful blindsiding. As it's a willful ignorance that allows this to happen. I hope everyone who voted for Biden understands that they just propped up more Wars and death of Americans. And you will never be given anything for free. They will just keep lying to you

Good! Imagine the implications of impeaching someone out of office. Besides, he didn’t incite violence, he told them to be peaceful.

I know you Yankees give a bit what the rest thinks about you. But don't you want to restore at least a little bit of the credibility the "beacon of democracy" once hat? Impeach him, uncover his lies and thank Georgia every day!!

Anything to use up tax dollars. Most all the top globalist liberal democrats need to retire. They obviously do not give a damn about America or Americans.

Cant belive I would have ever voted Rubio. Man was I wrong about that guy. Best thing Chris Kristy has done was to make Rubio look like the fool he is.

Hypocracy in the GOP? Whaaaaat? Whatcha expect from the party of impeach a guy for having an affair then push some knuckledraging king of the double digits into the White House? I'd say par for the course and would be incredibly shocked if they were to ever put our country before their party. Good thing is that its irrelevant as his legacy as the worst ever will stand and the GOP can't do anything to change that. Our kids kids will know.

MIT Romney is the lone GOP senator that deserves a voice in the discussion of whether or not to Impeach Trump. He is the only one who through his convictions and responsibility to the office he holds voted for conviction of the clear criminal action that Trump committed against Ukrain in his first trial. So since all of the the remaining GOP are complecit in all of his criminal activities post the first impeachment I’m not at all surprised that they now want to sweep the fact that he tried to over turn the will of the people in a fair election. And when that failed attempted to overthrow the government of the United States in order to achieve that goal. So now you would have us just ignore the insurrection that he incited and the lies that he told resulting in the deaths of more American citizens than died in WW11 which is even more dispicable than his first crime. And now your claim is that impeachment is a waste of time however you would impeach a President for an indiscretion that rightfully should have been between him and his wife? No with the exception of Mit Romney the entirety of the GOP is also complicit in 45’s crimes and should resign their seats since they are unwilling to stand on the side of fairness and the rule of law. It is not a waste of time to insure that Trump can never again hold a Federal office and is actually in the GOP’s best interest if he cannot. Little Rubio, please try to dig deep and see if you can muster the courage to do the right thing and support the impeachment of this Tyranical would be king for the wellbeing of this country. And If you can find that courage the entire world will thank you.

Anyone with common sense knows this whole thing is bogus. This is a power grab and the usual idiots fall for these lies. They should be concerned with election fraud, that's where the real crime was.
