Trump impeachment trial looks tough as 45 Republican senators stand against it

Former President Donald Trump may not be eventually convicted by the US Senate. Although 45 Republicans tried in vain to dismiss his impeachment trial before it even began as 55 voted in favor of it, Democrats face a daunting task to get the 67 senators needed to convict Trump by a two-thirds majority. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) called the trial ’unconstitutional’ as Trump was no longer the president.

When will the liberal's ever learn. Their hatred becomes them. Party first, country last. Four years of failure, now they want to repeat it.

Overthrowing the President has been the number one objective of the Democrats. Four years they failed to do their jobs running the country. Now they're butt hurt and trying to do it again. Kind of reminds you of the roadrunner cartoons. They keep trying to catch the Trump, but always fail. Kind if like the country that they have failed.

If the Senate Republicans will not hold Trump accountable for his crimes causing the riots it will be the downfall of the party. Wait and see what comes out about Trump’s many crimes. In the end at least 17 Republican senators will vote against Trump, find him guilty and take away his right to start any political party ever again. And that’s only the start of his total downfall.

An impeachment of Trump at this point is meaningless and will only increase the decisiveness of our country. If the Democrats or Republicans believe that Trump committed an actual crime, such as sedition, then turn over the evidence to the DOJ for an investigation and possiblibly indictment on criminal charges. Impeachment is, and always will be, just an out dated political tool. Trump or Biden could do something akin to murder and I don’t think the Senate would remove either of them from office.

Are we going to apply the “inciting a terrorist attack” standard consistently? What about when Madonna said she wanted to blow up the White House? Does what we are deeming here is the law only apply to certain people?

Dems too busy throwing Trumps stuff on the lawn forgetting they have a country to run. "Don't throw the toilet on the lawn, you need that, Trump had that working fine and now you are going to have to shìt on the floor!"

Are they seriously trying to impeach Trump without witnesses and therefore without evidence. Has America gone so far that you can convict on accusation alone. And the Dems accuse Trump of being a dictator. The hipocracy is astounding. Stalin would have been proud.

Hasn't SCOTUS refused to preside? Can it be a legal impeachment without SCOTUS?

More waste of the taxpayer's money( the only thing leftist are good at) There is a 0.00% chance of getting 17 Republicans to convict. You'll get 5 maybe 6 Rino's at the very best.

The majority of Banana Republicans Senators just declared that a President can avoid consequences as long as they leave office before an impeachment trial. A future President could find ways to stonewall and therefore get away with anything. With no accountability, this WILL happen again. The house impeachment was voted on WHILE Trump was still President. The Constitution does not say one way or another whether a Presidential impeachment trial can occur after he leaves office. There is precedent for trials after someone leaves office, so their argument is not cut and dry. Something not being there is NOT automatically unconstitutional. Since the GOP is always talking about original intent they should read up on the debates regarding Impearchment. They hit on this point and defer to precedent in English law which does allow it. They took it as understood. INTENT seems pretty clear from that.
