WhatsApp adds biometric authentication on desktop, web clients

WhatsApp will begin to require biometric authentication, like fingerprint or face ID, for logging on to the service’s desktop or web client. Until now, WhatsApp accounts, which are tied to a phone number, required your mobile to scan a QR code in the desktop app or web client. Now, biometrics would rule out anyone having a physical possession of the phone or SIM gain access someone else’s account.

Not a good idea willingly giving up your biometric data to a company like Facebook. They have a poor track record of abusing people's personal information.
