UK regulator launches probe into Facebook’s Giphy acquisition

The United Kingdom’s competition regulator, Competition and Markets Authority, said it is launching a probe into Facebook’s purchase of popular GIF website Giphy. According to some media reports, the deal was sealed at $400 million. The regulator would look into whether the deal cuts competition in the animated images market. In November, a UK tribunal ruled that the CMA can carry out its probe.
