President Biden has ordered the DOJ to end its reliance on private prisons and acknowledge the central role government has played in implementing discriminatory housing policies. Biden said the government needs to change ’its whole approach’ on the issue of racial equity. The order directs the AG not to renew DOJ contracts with privately operated criminal detention facilities.
Racial equality versus racial equity. Scary words. Equal chance to succeed? Absolutely!!! Equal outcome? Of course not.
I like where this is at, and I hope it actually is followed through on (have doubts of course). Maybe he can further criminal justice reform by pardoning the non-violent drug offenders put in prison by the bill he sponsored. That would go a looong way. Bummed Trump didn’t do it as a middle finger to Biden, but now it’s Biden’s turn for redemption.
That fact that private prisons are even a thing is bizarre to me. You shouldn't be profiting off of the imprisonment of people.
Hey, I'll say it, this is a good thing, and I am happy that President Biden did this. More in the same vein would be nice.
Not a supporter of his but this I can give him props on. The other recent executive orders not so much. I am strictly referring to the private prisons and nothing else.
BASED
Surprisingly this is an actual good thing the Biden admin is doing.
I actually support this move from Biden.
Such is the way of life
interesting. keep in mind phrases in legislation akin to 'begin to prepare for' and 'start phasing out' are actually amiguous and difficult to administer effectively.
