More than 2,000 police and fire depts. in 48 US states have partnered with Amazon’s Ring camera system, which lets law enforcement ask users for footage from their Ring security cameras to assist with investigations. The law enforcement depts. reportedly asked for videos for more than 22,335 incidents last year. 1,900 of those requests were directed towards Amazon after being denied by the owners.
So basically the people, on their own free will, have installed surveillance cameras every 300 meters. Now they act surprised that the footage can be used by law enforcement on matters not relevant to the owner of the camera. Color me shocked!
Oh, so the police and fire dept. are the good guys now? Got it.
Hey didn't they have these ubiquitous telecom surveillance units in that George Orwell book? What are we modeling our society off of a fictional dystopia?
