Police pepper-spray 9-year-old girl, draw condemnation

Police in Rochester pepper sprayed a handcuffed 9-year-old following a domestic dispute. The fourth grader screamed for her father after being separated from her family. NYCLU Executive decried the event saying ’There is no conceivable justification.’

"you're acting like a child" No shit she's acting like a child you blithering idiot! she's a child! You've got 18 officers wandering around scratching their dicks. Tell her to give one of them her dad's phone number and get him on the phone for her. Considering she thinks her psycho mom just stabbed her dad, she has every right to be freaking the fuck out.

Unfortunately it appears in many instances that the police have turn into a nuisance to the people, rather than the leaders and protectors they were supposed to be. Fantastic at writing up speeding tickets but basic problem solving and crisis managements skills are lacking.

Let me guess… they thought she was armed? She looked agressive? The police didn't feel confident that they could take her? They flipped & the coward lost? She was shadow boxing & they could see her talent and feared her pain giving gut punch? She was in the background to her moms back as they watched her flipping & breaking boards? WTF? They couldn't have thought a little harder about it? They're just giving her "street credit" now… come on, guys!

Don't call the police to solve family issues. Its like calling a plumber to wipe your bùtť. Its overkill.

So not only did they have her on the ground they pepper sprayed her too? Are you telling me officer that you can't handle the nine year old child? Want to pull your gun too? Nice little power trip. What a fecking joke

Well what was the situation? Because if she was holding a knife and thretening to cut her baby brother then spray away!

Good thing you took her down guys, I bet you were scared for your lives from that 9-year-old girl

Very unprofessional. Sure the child had an attitude but, they could have easily close the door without the pepper spray. Cops have a tough job, but in this case they're very wrong.

Using pepper spray on a child isn't any different than using a fist. Parents would be in court for child abuse. The article didn't say anything about the 9 year old girl having a weapon so there was no reason for the officer to abuse the 9 year old girl.

And this is what comes from the disrespect and breakdown of the traditional family. I've known 4 year Olds with more self control than that girl.

Police: "Get in the car (lawful command) Detainee: "No." (refusing command) Police: "pshrsh. Now get in the car." Detainee: "Ok." [Expand] The age is irrelevant. Citizens need to have a proper respect for law enforcement. The arresting officer issued a lawful command to a recalcitrant individual, at which point the arresting officer deployed a weapon to force the detainee's compliance. Juvenile or not, if you refuse the ask and the tell, you get the make. If you do wrong, be prepared, police are armed for a reason. It's like Chris Rock said, "Obey the law!"

Full video: Holy cr*p ... that kid and their mom, what a family. Poor kid is wild and mom is clearly a bad parent. Kids aren't just like that. You MAKE them like that. Mom AND the kids were taunting people passing by. What the heII is wrong with people?

They were playing nice for 10-20 min, she refuses to comply. They warn her pepper spray is coming, and she even mentions it herself, so she knows what's gonna happen. She still refuses to comply. Parents need to teach their kids to respect and comply with the cops. If she would calmly get in the car, then call her dad from the police station, or calmly tell the location of her dad to the cops if she thought she was in trouble, then just get in the damn car wouldn't have happened. I dunno. Everyone saying how evil this one was, what would you have done. The female cop was already offering to find the dad, just get in the car...

At what age will it be ok to pepper spray the perpetrator?

Aleks 3 months

This is insane. No 1 you should never use violence on children. No 2 this is not a job for a cop they should have sent somebody from social services

Why send untrained cops to respond to an obvious mental health crisis? Do you not have cops/people who are trained specifically to intervene in just these types of call?🤣🇨🇦

So you couldn’t just pull a handcuffed 9 yr old into the car and close the needed the pepper spray huh. Can’t believe people really trying to justify this.

WWIII 3 months

Yeah I can’t get behind this, let the kid throw a fit and then proceed, it should’ve never been handled like that regardless of the situation period, that’s waaaay too young to be treated like that no matter what she did, there for sure was another way to handle it
