The nomination of Alejandro Mayorkas to become secretary of DHS was approved by the Senate. He was confirmed by a vote of 56 to 43, with the final tally reflecting opposition from some Republican senators to the new administration’s immigration policies. There are also concerns about an internal 2015 DHS investigation into Mayorkas’ actions as head of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
