Joe DiMeo, who suffered 80% burns in a car crash, talked about life for the first time after getting a new face and two hands in a historic 23-hour session of surgeries at New York University’s Langone Health in August. Talking to NBC, DiMeo, 22, said he was rediscovering several sensations and the touch of others. However, the surgeries reduced his overall quality of life, including his vision.
Happy for him, but thst would be unimaginably difficult. Especially seeing someone else when you look in the mirror. Such a fast accident can cause so much change.
I'm glad they were able to improve his appearance overall, it sounds like that mattered to him, but it is a shame that his quality of life decreased. it's amazing to me in this day and age that we don't yet have a better more effective medical way of treating severe injuries like this.
Did he get new arms too? I didn’t see those sweet tats in the before pics
Omega, the fact that this can be done at all is amazing
I have a friend who was in a car stopped at a light when a semi plowed into a gasoline truck right next to him. He looks like the "before" picture. Before long, I found that I barely noticed his scars. It's like you'd look right past them.
