Saudi women’s rights activist freed after 3 years in prison

One of Saudi Arabia’s most prominent political activists, Loujain al-Hathloul, has been released from prison Wednesday. Al-Hathloul served nearly three years on charges that sparked an international uproar over the kingdom’s human rights record. Al-Hathloul was arrested and sentenced under a broad counterterrorism law. The release comes as Saudi Arabia faces new scrutiny from the US.
