Nigerian farmers can sue Shell over oil pollution, UK Supreme Court rules

Nigerian farming communities from the villages of Ogale and Bille can sue oil giant Shell and its Nigerian subsidiary for cleaning up their region of oil spills and compensation in an England court, UK’s Supreme Court has ruled. Lawyers hailed the ruling as a ’watershed moment’ on the accountability of multinational companies operating in areas where local communities are often at disadvantage.

Although Shell is a British/Dutch company, its world headquarters are based in The Hague, Netherlands. Wouldn't the Dutch courts be the correct venue rather than the British courts, given the arguments made that the Nigerian courts are too corrupt?
