Reparations bill for Black Americans debated by House subcommittee

The legislation that would establish a federal commission to consider reparations for Black Americans was debated by the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties. The panel held a hearing on the topic in 2019. The bill was first introduced by the late Rep. John Conyers in 1989 and is now sponsored by Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee and supported by President Biden

I want reparations from all Africans for my neanderthal ancestors who were slaughtered by homo sapiens sapiens coming out of Africa. I also want reparations from Northern Europe for all the Viking rapes and pillaging that occurred on my ancestors in the land of caucasia. I would also like reparations from Italy for all the roman soldiers who emperialized my ancestors. I would like reparations from Mongolia for the rape of one of my ancestors by Genghis Khan. So that's reparations I'm getting from Africa, Europe, Eurasia, and the Mediterranean. #setforlife

Absolutely the slave owners should pay reparations to every person that was an actual slave in the US. Oh wait, they pretty much all died 100 years ago.

Reparations have been being paid since the welfare system was enacted. This is a shame. I want money because my skin is dark or maybe because I am too lazy to care for myself. Slaves actually worked for food and housing. The slave was more dignified than the blacks today. Also blacks were not the only slaves.

Everyone wants to react but doesn't want to give logic or reason to their displeasure. Mine is simple. I'm mostly Irish and that was an entire country enslaved. Then when they fled to America they were treated like human trash. No one's ever thought England or the U.S. owes us reparations and well neither do I. If you actually LIVED through it we'll talk. Otherwise it's history. Move on with your life.

I always wonder how they're going to justify stealing money from people who never had slaves to pay for people who never were slaves. it's going to be even more interesting to figure out who's going to have to pay and who do they pay? Are we going to run back everyone's lineage to make sure that the people actually own slaves at some point in their family life? Are we going to make sure that people have ancestry that were actually slaves? What happens when someone has ancestry both in the slave owning and slave side as many blacks do? To me this just seems like a flat out racist idea to simply pay people for the color of their skin. It also brings up another question will we start charging people for their ancestors crime? If your father robbed a bank should you be punished now?

The quickest way to racial disharmony is to treat one group of people differently from the herd. We are not responsible for the actions of our distant forefathers.

Reparations won't work. They'll blow through that cash faster than welfare and then put their hands out again. Besides, if you get reparations you'll run out of excuses to being "held back" and we can't have that, just like you lefties never want to actually end racism, sexism, poverty, etc

They got a f*ing country after the civil war ended from Abraham Lincoln. Its called Liberia. If you're black in america today then YOUR ancestor refused the free one way trip to a brand new country back in africa. Guess what happened shortly thereafter? They had a civil war and the blacks who were americans ended up enslaving the original people of its lands. So stfu and get on with life.

Why does the "woke" left treat people with melanin as if they were special, children or pets? They feel this inherent need to "protect" and "lift up" and "support" people who are actually no different than those who lack melanin. Is the "woke" left telling me that those with melanin are inherently different, inferior and less capable and thus needing special support? because that sounds very much like Melanism to me.

Since many of those sold into slavery from Africa were sold by other African peoples, does that mean black people owe reparations to each other?

Well if they want reparations (not) then they need to look up those black slave owners and ask them as well.

How bout the black slave owners? How bout the Irish the original slaves in the Colonies? How bout the blacks that sold slaves ( Cumala Harris family)? How do you take my money when no one in my family ever owned a living piece of farm equipment? Also the slaves were always going to be a slave either here, in africa or in the middle east. They were from the weaker tribes that were conquered by better blacks to begin with.

Leninism 4.0 with the Great Leap Forward rebranded as the Green New Deal,  followed by Holodomor 2.0 global scale to eliminate 7.5 billion people. It is not what they say it is about.

Why all the concern over an issue that ended 150 years ago when actual slavery still exists today? These people would rather 'fix' something already fixed a century and a half ago rather than address problems going on RIGHT NOW.

Reparations are a farce. Black people earn more money in America than any black majority country on the planet. If they aren’t happy then we should pay for a one-way plane ticket and a renunciation of their US citizenship.

Only people responsible for reparations; 1] countries who sold the slaves and enslaved them[Nigeria, Ghana, etc] 2] people who used slaves for profit [and their descendents] 3] the CSA [no longer exists. ]

Should we do like N Korea too, and lock up people whose ancestors committed crimes and got away with it?
