UK, Canada slap sanctions on Myanmar military for coup

The United Kingdom and Canada have imposed new sanctions on the Myanmar military after it toppled the country’s elected government in a coup on February 1. The UK said it was imposing sanctions on three junta officials for human rights violations during the crackdown. Canada has imposed sanctions on nine members of the junta under a law that allows Ottawa to freeze their assets.
