Southern Baptist Convention considers ousting a Georgia church

Towne View Baptist Church in Kennesaw, GA and Pastor Jim Conrad have been accepting LGBT members, contrary to the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) doctrine. The executive committee of the SBC will be considering a recommendation to disfellowship the Georgia church. This is one of many divisive issues that have been challenging the SBC, the largest protestant denomination in the United States.

What a waste of time. Imagine if organized religion stopped mucking around with social conflicts and greed. They would be able to solve a lot of real problems, like homelessness and addiction, aside from sticking their noses into love lives and sexualities.

1) God comes before politics, who care if a religious figure has different political opinions. 2) churches SHOULD accept LGBT members, why? You'll bring more people to God through love than condemnation, and you'll hopefully encourage many to repent of their sins. This is as dûmb an argument as saying "sex addicts, alcoholics, sex workers etc should be barred from attending". Barring the people who need the church the most is counter productive. So long as the ministry doesn't become "progressive" and start espousing blatant falsehoods like "you don't need to repent of homosexuality, and gay marriage should be performed" there is no problem. Essentially, if the church leads those on the wrong path towards righteousness and is not lead astray itself there is no problem.

This is a faction of christianity initiated so slave owners can still go to heaven over 150yrs ago. So prejudice and elitism are their building blocks. They where also the majority members in the old KKK. Many Baptist preachers were also grand wizards. And every grand wizard claimed Baptist as their faith. Know a tree by its fruit and dont blame a snake for being a snake just recognize it for what it is.

The truth is, that all of the Abrahamic religions have to go. They're tribalist cults that will always cause suffering. Gnostic Christianity, Buddhism, and Hinduism, are good religions.

This is the problem inherent in the Protestant churches. The Protestant churches feel as if they should conform to society instead of having society conform to the Church.

What is there to talk about? Religion should stay out of politics and vice versa. God loves everyone regardless of the color of their skin and so should we. Sodomy is sinful but people who practice sodomy are sinners like everyone else. It seems fairly cut and dry to me.

How about we don't decide how to treat others based on fairytale books written thousands of years ago by desert people. How about we craft our morals around wellbeing instead.

Ok.. it depends on what "accepting LGTBQ+ members means" Are they people struggling who are trying to follow the right path... and are allowed membership because of that? Or are they happy and proud? while being openly accepted by this church. If it is the former, there is no issue But If its the latter, there is a serious problem as that mindset is antithetical to the Christian faith... Let me be clear, no one is saying an LGBT+ can not attend church or shouldn't feel welcomed but to be a member in an active sense... there are certain principle truths that must be affirmed.

Look, if you are using your religion to determine how to vote, you are using both religion and voting wrong.
