New Mexico Gov. regrets spending taxpayer cash on food, alcohol

New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham apologized for discretionary spending of taxpayer money that included $6,500 on groceries and alcohol. Democrat Grisham, over a six-month period in 2020, spent almost $13,500 from a taxpayer-funded expense account on functions, events or items that promote the state. ’It’s not what tax dollars ought to be spent for,’ GOP House Minority Leader Townsend said.

Title should read 'regrets getting caught spending taxpayer cash'. She had no problem with her actions before being exposed.

Kudos to the press for spotting and reporting on this. ( How’s that @Robert?) We need all government servants scrutinized daily, equally, and unapologetically. Waste and abuse needs the bright disinfectant of daylight to clean out the dirty politicians (basically everyone of them).

If it’s for functions that promote the state, I don’t see the problem. That’s what the fund is for. Now if the gov was using it for personal expenses, parties, etc, then of course they should be punished.

Why is it so hard for these politicians to keep their hands out of the cookie jar?
