’Madman’ on iconic ’The Scream’ painting written by artist himself, museum says

The barely visible but mysterious sentence on Edvard Munch’s 1893 masterpiece ’The Scream’ was written by the painter himself, Norway’s National Museum said. The sentence — ’can only have been painted by a madman’ — is in the painting’s top left-hand corner. The painting, which shows a figure with an agape mouth with hands on sides of his face, has become a global icon and tech emoji for anxiety.
