Family of boy who died during Texas winter storm sues power companies for $100M

The family of an 11-year-old who died in a Texas home last week is suing power company Entergy and grid operator Electric Reliability Council of Texas for more than $100M. The suit alleges that the boy died of hypothermia as there was no electricity at the home. It also accuses the firms of not protecting the grid against the storm properly and also not warning the residents against the outages.

Sorry for your loss but this will go no where it is not the electric companies fault for your poor survival/ parenting skills... Granted if he went outside before power was out.. that is fine.. but knowing the kid went out and not adding layers/ blankets.. sleeping bags... or going to somewhere with power is why I say my above statement

One small candle can give more than enough heat to prevent hypothermia. As long as they were protected from the elements, there's no reason this child should have died, power or no power. They just let the kid lay there freezing until he was dead. Terrible parents.

Greedy as family. You dont got blankets? A candle? You cant huddle together for warmth? Nothing huh? Well sounds like your efforts were negligent and you should be going to prison because appraently youre warm. The rest of your family is warm. Yet not that 1 child though? Sounds like abuse to me.

I too am sad that an 11 year old lost his life. But as parents it was their responsibility to care for that child and keep him safe. I have three grandson at that same age. I don't think the electric company said let's turn off the power and kill a little boy.

How could he have died of hypothermia in his own home? A small candle can provide enough heat to prevent hypothermia. Gathering together and sharing body heat can prevent hypothermia. Clothing and blankets can prevent hypothermia. Did these parents just let the kid sit and freeze to death?

They should sue Obama for shutting down all the coal plants. “If somebody wants to build a coal-fired power plant, they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them,” Obama said, responding to a question about his cap-and-trade plan. He later added, “Under my plan … electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.” https://www.dallasnews.com/business/energy/2017/10/13/texas-largest-power-generator-speeds-up-coal-s-decline-with-closure-of-two-more-plants/

I can't think of anything more cucked than being a conservative, big energy busting down your door and shooting your wife as you say "mmmmmhh yes, more please, at least were freezing to death and not starving to death like we would in voovoozala"

But they will fail, because the contract specifies only that the company is obligated to make all reasonable efforts to restore power, did not bill them during the statewide failure, and is not liable for losses resulting from not having purchased their product.

I feel sad that they lost a loved one but you can't win a lawsuit involving an act of God.

Good. Working class people need to fight this attempt at free market capitalism.

The parents need to be in jail for not providing a way to help keep him warm.
