Canada parliament declares China’s Uighur persecution as ’genocide’

Canada’s House of Commons has voted overwhelmingly – 266 to 0 – to label China’s persecution of its Uighur population in Xinjiang as ’genocide.’ The motion was supported by all opposition parties and some lawmakers from the governing Liberal Party. However, Prime Minister Justice Trudeau and most of his cabinet members abstained. This makes Canada the second country after the US to do so.
