World freshwater fish populations at risk of extinction, study finds

A report by 16 global conservation organizations revealed that global populations of freshwater fish were facing extinction. The report – ’The World’s Forgotten Fishes’ – said the number of migratory freshwater fish have fallen by 76% since 1970, and fishes weighing over 30kg have been almost wiped out in most rivers. It cited several reasons, including pollution, overfishing and dams, for this.
