Australia has become the first nation to enact a law that will make tech companies, like Facebook and Google, to pay publishers for news that they use. Opposing the legislation, Facebook had recently blocked news links and removed even some government pages from its platform. It restored the pages after Canberra agreed to some minor changes. Google has inked deals with major Aussie news outlets.
The factions are: the people, the federal government, social media tech, news media. The only one that always gets left in the rain is the people. Media and tech are lovers, and the government is the pervert in the corner of their bedroom, being cucked by tech. Show me on the doll where I'm wrong. This move by Australia to try to make it a threesome still excludes us at least coming inside. The only ones that get to come inside, are those three. At least in Australia. Other governments are still beta.
No this is not a good thing. Watch how it plays out. This will strengthen the ability for big tech to quiet the news outlets they don’t like, watch.
Just waiting for the outrage when it turns Sky News Australia is the most shared and therefore gets the most money.
That's just what we need, CNN getting funding from Google.
Government backed fake news needed on platforms to keep the sheep in line.
Great they are acting like a publisher and editor themselves . So let's take it all the way .
A very big thank you from all of us. As it used to be said - they got put paid !
This is great news for independent journalism. People nowadays are more likely to donate to their favourite news sources than pay for a subscription by big corporations. Big tech will feel the pinch and will pay the actual ''price'' for sharing propaganda.
