A ritual locally believed to drive away ’evil spirits’ has resulted in the death of a nine year old girl in Sri Lanka. The girl was beaten with a cane by two people performing the ritual, her mother and another woman. The mother believed her daughter was ’possessed by a demon’, and has since been arrested by the police for her crime.
This is an extreme example of religious law. A more extreme version is the honor killings of islam. A less extreme version is america's laws that allow employers to fire people for their sexual orientation. When superstitions are allowed to dictate behavior, bad things happen.
Funny how many God haters have jumped on this bandwagon. You also need to get your own dirt before rebuilding humanity.
Leave exorcism to the Catholic Church. They have a good system for determining when its a mental health issue and when it might be something else.
That's why we need a LOAD more science education in school. Then, people in their teens will increasingly question the unscientific, primitive superstitions, called religion, that their parents feed them since infancy. They'll stare at the church ceiling one day at 17 or 19 and say "what a load of bull" and never walk in again.
I went through an exorcism at 16yo, it was a very un-fun experience, but I wasn't caned to death, I hope both women get arrested and charged with murder by torture.

You want to know why I am not a Christian? It's not Christ I'm ashamed of, it's His fsking followers.
So now how do we resolve such funny people. Leave it beaver as before. Or actually use it to run itself aground. Any clues !?
Religion can be an awful thing when taken too literally.
Religion and why it's so dangerous.
The majority of the humans as a species are not very intelligent animals
I think the mother was the one that was possessed by “evil spirits”.
I’m curious as to how the cane beating supposedly drives out evil spirits
This is why dogma should be avoided, no matter how comforting it is.
God Bless. Awoman.
Something very similar happened in Nigeria, after the so called Christian charities "converted" the local citizens and then left them unsupervised with their Bible. Only one thing happens, the converted communities turn against their children, look up: Nigerian Witch children to see what I am talking about. Its not the mother who should be put on trial here, it is the irresponsible f00ls within her church.
All cultures are beautiful. -Sargon of Akkad
Faith poisons everything.
this may sound heartless, but why are we talkin about this, why is this even news? It's 2021 and there are still people believe in exorcism, let them be, let them kill their own children and the problem will resolve itself in a generation or two by itself. I DO HOPE, THE JUDGE sentences the mother to being whipped to death in the same fashion, perhaps this will leave a lasting impression on the rest of the degenerates that like to perform exorcism.
This is sad. We wrestle not against flesh and blood But against powers and principalities in high places. I'm a believer in Jesus, and not even His ministry or the ministry of the apostles under Him taught us to deal with evil by doing harm to the afflicted. And they cast out many spirits and demonic forces inhabiting people. The fight against spiritual entities takes place in prayer, and preaching the gospel. Jesus crucifiction and resurrection for the forgiveness of sins. This [gospel of Jesus] is the saving power of God. Not beating people with a stick.
