Texas lifts mask mandate, Covid-19 curbs despite warnings

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said his state will end the compulsory wearing of masks in public places, which was imposed 8 months ago with other Covid-19 curbs. Additionally, he said Texas will end limits on the number of diners that restaurants can serve indoors. The new rules will take effect March 10. This comes despite the CDC warned of a ’potential 4th Covid surge’ if the US became complacent.

A little nervous about this but I am happy our state government is allowing people and businesses to make their own decisions. It will be interesting to see what restaurants and schools do.

Well done Texas. The last 12 months has shown common sense isn’t so common but better late than never. Sound argument could be made nobody should have ever locked down in the first place but that’s an individual states call of course. Now to look for houses in Texas!!

Also many medical professionals including mental health have warned of the dangers of the isolation of the lockdowns and the use of masks as unnecessary and potentially harmful. Yet DESPITE THEIR WARNINGS, the govts imposed their restrictions anyway. Will news outlet ever stop spinning the information?

I am fine with it as long as the businesses are flexible and can impose the mask mandate if Texas gets hit with another wave. But I find it too early for the mask restrictions to be removed especially since vaccines are being distributed. Then again, the Texas goveners do not seem to care about their constituents if the snow storm showed us anything.

We should have never had mask mandates in the first place and I’m really disappointed in my fellow Texans that dropped into this so easily. Glad this is over and we should never let it happen again.

Florida never even had a statewide mask mandate. Desantis left it to individual counties to make the call.

Oh well killing off a few more smarter than the science people cant be all bad, can it? Remember we can always blame it on underlying health issues.

I just hope this decision doesn’t backfire for the sake of health workers and citizens. I’m sure Texans don’t want to revisit the time when infections and deaths were at an all time high. Hoping all turns out well.

Not that I'm against fully reopening, but I feel it's a little premature... Even for the responsible folk in Texas. Maybe I'm too cautious

Oh dear, the vaccine hasn't really had chance to work yet. You'd think they would've learned from last time they opened up too early... https://youtu.be/8kzpyqL43i0
